Dr. S.C. Handa has 44 years of administrative, teaching and research experience in the field of Engineering. After obtaining his Master of Engineering degree in 1966 from the then University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), he joined this institute as a faculty member. In 1971 he was awarded Commonwealth Scholarship of Government of Canada for higher studies under which he procured his Ph.D in Engineering from Queen’s University at Kingston in Canada.
Dr. S.C. Handa has been actively involved in the area of Faculty Development for which he underwent training in foreign countries. He has run dozens of courses on “Effective Teaching” at IIT Roorkee wherein he has been personally involved in improving the classroom teaching skills of over 1000 technical teachers. He has also been deeply involved in student counseling, developing their personalities and equipping them with Soft Skills. For the past over two decades, Dr. Handa has also been associated in the process of welfare of the disabled. So far he has been instrumental in giving rehabilitation services to over 4000 deaf children and adults.
Dr. Handa is a recipient of several awards, some of which includes “Human Relations Award” of Queen’s University of Canada; Best research paper award of Indian Geotechnical Society; Fulbright Fellowship of U.S.A. and U.P. Government National Award for being the Best Technical Teacher for his outstanding works. In 1998, Prof. Handa also received the Government of India’s most prestigious National Award for being the “Best Individual Serving the Disabled” which was given to him by the then Prime Minister of India, Sh. Atal Behari Vajpayee.
